I love to wear vintage clothing and accessories. My favorite vintage piece is a polka-dotted headscarf I purchased from Checkered Past many years ago. Checkered Past was a vintage clothing store in New Cumberland, PA, but sadly, it closed over five years ago. I loved going in there and looking at everything. I never bought as much as I wanted because I honestly could have bought everything. In addition to the headscarf, I bought a mint green and white polka-dotted peasant dress from the 70’s. The dress met a very sad end when my sister decided to wear it to a prom themed rugby game.
A lot of vintage items are one of a kind. I love pieces that stand out, but it’s not always easy to figure out how to wear vintage items without the item looking out of place. I decided to purchase some new vintage pieces to wear on a regular basis. Find a balance with vintage and modern and you’ll be able to create perfect outfits.
Tips on How to Wear Vintage Fashion Everyday
Choose accessories that complement your personal style
Cardigan clips are my new favorite accessory. I made these cute pink flower cardigan clips myself from vintage clip on earrings and a heart shaped gold chain. They look adorable with a white button up blouse. Of course, you can also clip them to any cardigan you’re wearing.
Shop at thrift stores
Community Aid has half off most everything on Wednesdays. I’m obsessed with vintage scarves. You can find a ton of cute scarves just like this one for less than $1. Pair a scarf with a solid colored shirt or mix and match patterns to add a cute touch to your outfit.
Ask family members and friends
My mom gave me this knit vest. It looks really cute paired with a white blouse. You might find a vintage piece you love if you ask family members or friends.
Etsy is one of my favorite places to find vintage clothing and accessories. Use the search bar to find exactly what you’re looking for. How cute is this barrette? I’m going to be wearing it for my birthday party in March.
